Love our Earth

The piece is titled “Love our Earth.” It was created on a recycled piece of plywood and was 6ft wide and 3ft tall. I chose to create two layers to this project. The first was a painting of what the world should look like and the top layer was the temperature of the earth due to CO2 emissions. The second layer was cut into pieces that each had a QR code on the back that led users to plant a tree in the place they picked up or find more information about climate change.

A Look at the Process

After researching climate change and how it is perceived among people of faith, I conducted interviews with various people of different demographics. I asked them about climate change, if they were comfortable with the topic, if they knew it to be real, and more questions about how it fits into their life.

I then brainstormed how I can encourage people to interact and learn more. My immediate response was to do something big that caught the attention of viewers and lead them to look further and learn more.

I decided to create a 6ft installation on plywood. Using an informative guide of CO2 levels in our world now and in 50 years, I illustrated a temperature map. This map was cut into different pieces. Each piece was a region of the world with a call to make a difference the back.
